Improvements start on Tourle Street, Mayfield
10th April 2012

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) will commence traffic flow improvements at the Tourle Street and Industrial Drive intersection at Mayfield, tomorrow.

Member for Newcastle, Tim Owen said $500,000 has been provided under the State Traffic Management Program to improve traffic flow at this busy intersection.

“The project involves extending the southbound left turn lane on Tourle Street on approach to the Industrial Drive intersection,” Mr Owen said.

“The work also includes shoulder widening and relocating existing signs.

“Vehicles travelling south on Tourle Street are often unable to access the left turn slip lane into Industrial Drive due to vehicles queuing to turn right towards Maitland.

“Extending the merge lane should improve traffic flow for all southbound vehicles by allowing motorists wanting to turn left to pass the queued traffic.

“Work will be carried out mostly on weekdays between 10am and 2pm and is expected to be completed in June, weather permitting,” Mr Owen said.

Motorists may experience minor delays during this work and a 40km/h speed limit will be enforced while work is carried out.

Be roadwork aware, slow down and take care – roadwork speed limits are enforceable.
